Architecture Art Prints Collection
I absolutely love drawing buildings! My father was a true renaissance man—talented and skilled in so many areas. He could fix plumbing, build a shed, design and plant a landscape garden, and even change the car's oil—all on top of his regular job. As for me, I can hold my own with a screwdriver, hammer, and paintbrush, but I’m no math or physics whiz, so architecture wasn’t in the cards for me. However, architectural illustrations have always tugged at my heartstrings.
Architectural illustrations, the backstory
Growing up in a Swiss household meant aesthetics were important. Coupled with the influence of my renaissance father and spending summers traveling Europe, I fell in love with art, architecture and design at an early age.
While I don’t think I am particularly gifted at sketching precision-focused artwork of architecture, I do think that I have a style that has become recognizable as my own – and that is pretty awesome to discover.
My architectural illustration heroes
I was and continue to be deeply influenced by French painter, Michel Delacroix, Brooklyn based illustrator, James Gulliver Hancock, and my absolute biggest girl crush, Julia Rothman.
Like many of the great illustration artists, I love capturing small, meaningful moments—a charming storefront or a bustling city block that embodies the spirit of a place. When I illustrate for an architecture print, I’m always searching for that special something. I constantly snap photos of my surroundings and use them as inspiration for my sketches. When I first started, I aimed for accuracy and perfect straight lines, but I soon realized that my mistakes—like a crooked window or a door that seemed to float—often made my drawings more dynamic and interesting.
My favorite architectural art prints
Art is about speaking your mind and sharing your point of view. My favorite architecture illustrations are the ones that are a bit askew and contrary to the precise nature of architectural drawings. They’re a way to bring beautiful memories into your home of your favorite place—where you spent your honeymoon, your grandparent’s birthplace, or your own home town. My approach centers on curiosity and genuine enthusiasm for capturing a memory in the moment. My aesthetic is always purposeful, blending vivacious gestural lines along with foundational design principles, that emphasize profound expression, and above all, freedom.
